From time Von Zeit zu Zeit schaue ich mir auf Netflix Serien an, die sich auf das Leben im Gefängnis konzentrieren. Aus irgendeinem Grund fasziniert es mich, Gefängnisgeschichten zu hören.

Normale Regeln gelten nicht. Du musst beweisen, dass du hart bist. Sonst wird man herumgeschubst. Es ist ein ständiger Kampf darum, wer als König des Berges regieren wird.

Passen Sie auf, sonst könnte Ihnen ein Messer aus einer alten Zahnbürste direkt zwischen Ihren Solarplexus geraten.

Immer um die Ecke schauen zu müssen.

Die meisten Freiheiten, die eine normale Gesellschaft genießt, sind im Leben des Insassen ungenutzt.

Das Gleiche gilt für Schulden. Schulden fesseln den Schuldner.

Der Schuldner hat seine zukünftigen Einnahmen an den Kreditgeber abgegeben.

Ich habe zu viele Unternehmen gesehen, die unter der Last unkluger Schulden schrumpften. Folgendes sehe ich immer wieder:

Geschäftsinhaber sehen ein Werkzeug oder eine Ausrüstung, von der sie glauben, dass sie ihren Umsatz steigern werden. Sie werden mehr Geld verdienen, um den monatlichen Schuldendienst zu bezahlen. Sie leihen sich Geld, um den Kauf zu tätigen. Oft berücksichtigen sie nicht das Worst-Case-Szenario.

Was passiert, wenn die Verkäufe ausbleiben?

Wie werden die Schulden zurückgezahlt, wenn die anfänglichen Prognosen halb so groß sind? von dem, was vorhergesagt wurde?

Wenn die Schulden im schlimmsten Fall keinen Sinn ergeben, dann ist es sinnvoll, die Schulden zu vermeiden.

Das größte Problem bei der Aufnahme von Schulden ist das bringt die sprichwörtliche Dose auf die Straße.

Geschäftsinhaber verlieren den wahren Grund aus den Augen, warum ihr Unternehmen nicht über genügend Bargeld verfügt.

Der wahre Grund, warum das Unternehmen nicht über Bargeld verfügt, ist weil etwas die Gewinne aus ihrem Geschäft saugt. Hier sind einige der Gründe, warum ein Unternehmen nicht über Bargeld verfügt:

Sobald Sie die Antworten auf diese Fragen haben, stellen Sie noch eine Frage.< /p>

When I first started my business, I imagined my elevator pitch would be profound. I’d string together industry buzz words in a complex (yet elegant) way. The result? A perfect cohesion of syntax and vocabulary.

I’m a writer after all—right?

Honestly, I became so paralyzed by the idea of crafting the perfect pitch that I never really did. Instead every time some one asked me what I did, I’d fumble through an imprecise, wordy explanation.

Flash forward eight months, and my elevator pitch is pretty simple:

“I write. I edit. I plan events for people I like and events I like.”

If the person on the receiving end of this pitch asks for more detail, I elaborate with:

“I write and edit content for businesses, agencies, and editorial publications — like blog posts, websites, articles and more. And, if I really like you and your event, I’ll plan it.”

So, how did I get from illusions of grandeur to 25 words or less? I did the work.

At the beginning of the summer, Krysta Bea Jackson (owner of Sugar Love Chocolates) and I sat down for an extensive brainstorming sesh. She wanted to create an event series where she could nerd out about chocolate and build her business. Two burgers later at Brasserie Saint James, and the beginnings of Sugar Love University started to take shape.

Now, the idea is all reality. (Seriously, check out the course catalog. Better yet, sign up for a class).

It’s one of my favorite projects to work on because it encapsulates my developing ethos of planning events I enjoy for people I really like. It validates and develops my elevator pitch every day.

While creating a business (especially a business based in creative services), the idea of crafting the perfect elevator pitch is daunting and permanent. How can 30 seconds or less capture the essence of a new endeavor? Is that even enough time to do it (or you) justice?

It is—as long as you craft your elevator pitch based on action.

Think about what you love to do. The projects that bring you joy. The activities that keep you working long after a reasonable hour.

That’s the heart of your elevator pitch. When you do what you love for people you like there’s a sweet nexus of serendipity. That’s the place where success happens.

If you do the work you love, the pitch will come. And if you’re really lucky, it will involve chocolate.

The influence the 2026 FIFA World Cup will have on the youth soccer scene in this country cannot be understated.

Canada is already the home to a thriving soccer community, but it is a community that is inherently focused on the nationalities of our familiar backgrounds.

Growing up in Hamilton, each World Cup or Euro was an opportunity to wear your grandparent’s colours with pride and show where you and your family came from.

My Italian friends would all wear their three (then four) starred jerseys in June, and my ‘fellow Englishmen’ would all mysteriously not show up to school on days where England played a game.

If you are reading this, you are no doubt a fan of ‘the beautiful game’ and have similar memories throughout your childhood. And while those memories are all well and good, they aren’t the same as the truly ‘Canadian’ memories. Memories like Sidney Crosby whipping his gloves to the ice and jumping for joy after “the Golden Goal”, or Christine Sinclair leaping into the air after an Olympic hat trick.

We will finally have a Canadian World Cup memory, something that is not owned by a few similarly dressed children in a classroom, but all of us.

In 2026, Canadian soccer will truly be united, and there will be an additional team for each of us to skip school and work for.

Such an opportunity has only happened once before, and it is so far back in time that it is a distant memory to most Canadian sports fans.

The Canadian men’s national team’s debut at the FIFA world cup level was in 1986, when they were drawn into a group with France, Hungary, and the Soviet Union.

That team failed to score a goal, and while the experience was a first for this country, it has not held up as Canada’s iron-clad “moment” in soccer history.

This tournament looks to continue the momentum the 2007 U20 world cup and MLS expansion have created, growing the country into a hot-bed for international soccer.

And while it might be seven years away, world cups have a funny way of sneaking up on fans.

And the U14 and U15 kids who watched last summer’s tournament with admiring eyes will be in their early twenties when the 2026 tournament finally kicks off.

Some of those kids will probably be on the team, playing in front of their home nation on the world’s biggest stage.

A dream that is now a reality.
